Portraits in Turkey

The is Part Two of my trip to Turkey. It is at Topkapi Palace, Istanbul where I held my camera and went up to a weathered-looking gentleman. Oblivious to me, the man continued about his daily routine of keeping the palace compounds clean. “Could I take your picture?” I said, in as touristy a manner as I can muster - all while pinch-framing with my fingers in what I’d assume to be the universal gesture for taking a shot. He nodded… and from that one image, laid the blueprint for the rest that followed.

This is no longer just a personal portrait project but one where I experience the warm spirits and kindness in strangers from many walks of life. It might be a split second dialogue to them but an experience that is truly humbling when you are a portrait photographer shooting in foreign lands.
